This week Carole reads John 3 ver 1-21 and Colin continues in our series on Johns gospel. Nicodemus was in the dark – physically and spiritually. Despite his religious education and detailed observance of the purification rites of his religion, he couldn't grasp what Jesus was getting at when he was told that he needed to be ‘born again.’ He discovered, as we need to discover, that education is not enough, that only radical inner transformation will solve our problems. New life, given by God through faith in Jesus Christ who died on a Roman cross, is the only way to receive that new life and be accepted by God. Jesus, the light of the world, still shines in the darkness. Refusing to come to him condemns humanity to live in darkness and no amount of education will change that. Those who have come to the light and been transformed, need to live in the light and shine in the surrounding darkness.
