Carole reads from Rev 5. Colin contiues in his sermon series from the book of Reverlation.

Many people think that the Book of Revelation is a book describing a countdown to the Battle of Armageddon – they concentrate on what is taking place on the earth. However, as we saw last time, nothing that takes place on earth can happen without orders from God’s throne. We, like John, are invited to focus our attention on the Almighty who ordains all things.

Chapter 4 concentrated on the worship of God the creator. Chapter 5 turns our attention to the only one who is worthy to open the sealed scroll – the Lamb. Steeped in imagery from the Old Testament John is told that the Lion of the tribe of Judah is worthy and when he turns to look, he sees…a slaughtered lamb!

God will put an end to all tyranny and rebellion by a slain lamb. Before opening the seals, we’re forced to wait…and witness the worship which is offered to the Lamb. Everything that happens here comes from the throne and those gathered in worship. The song that is sung is a new one – it is the song of the redeemed. May we truly adore, worship and ardently pray for that day when the kingdom of this world will finally become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ and that we will be his people and he will be our God and dwell with us.
