Sometimes, when people don’t act their age, we might say: “Oh do grow up!” A deal of maturity is expected as one gets older. The same is true in the spiritual realm.

Paul was pleased that the Christians in Colossae were standing firm and showing signs of maturity but he wanted them to go even further and gives them three guidelines:

1. As you received…continue to live. The sequence is important. You can’t grow as a Christian without receiving Christ! Then you need to follow him as a disciple.

2. As you were rooted…be built up. Don’t go looking for growth outside of Christ!

3. As you were taught…be established. Paul was very hot on teaching. A mature Christian shows a thirst to learn.

When we are growing like that our hearts will overflow with thankfulness for all that Christ has done for us.
